THESE GROOVES ARE DEEP
THESE GROOVES ARE DEEP was a self-produced, 2-week archival residency in Paris' hometown of Tucson, Arizona (2011). A re-tracing of personal history, the residency consisted of exploring childhood artifacts, photos, recordings and conducting a series of interviews with family members and childhood friends, culminating in a ritualized, site-specific installation.
The ritual consisted of winding a single piece of string, 1.5 miles long, around points tagged with personal themes/wounds/questionings. The mapping was completed through a 4-hour meditative walk around a 30' x 30' stretch of desert, creating an external manifestation of well-worn emotional/pathological pathways stored in the brain and body.
